If you've driven (or looked at the Supercharger map) west of Kobe, you know that you're going to be dependent on CHAdeMO and/or destination chargers to complete your journey. After what seemed a lifetime, Tesla has added a Supercharger (SC) for drivers in western Japan in Kurashiki, Okayama prefecture.
This SC is in range of both the Kobe and Osaka SC and offers the full power that Tesla owners are learning to expect (more on that in another post). In addition, it's only 153 km. from the Miyajima SA that is in range from the Kumamoto area. That means I can drive to Miyajima, charge on CHAdeMO for an hour (instead of the 90 minutes I usually try for) and get supercharged in Kurashiki.
The only caveat is that the parking lot is currently on a schedule, open 10:00 to 20:00. I write currently because I was told that plans are to rebuild that section of the Edion electronics shop parking lot to accommodate 24-hour service for the SC. Patience.
Here are some shots from the charging session.
Thanks for adding power for us, Tesla. Please keep the Superchargers coming. I have more thoughts on the issue coming up.
